Fruit Arrangements

Here’s a peek at what we brought to our family Christmas celebration: a fruit tree centerpiece! It was really easy to do and my son had fun helping us assemble it. Just choose your favorite fruits and cheeses, break out the toothpicks and start in! We already had the festive Christmas tray and just had to pick up the foam tree from the craft store. It was only a few bucks and, if I had planned ahead, I could’ve used a 40% off coupon on it.

Here’s another view (after people had been snacking on it). My husband had the idea to put the top of the pineapple on the tray, too, which was a fun little addition. The star was cut from pineapple. We added the rest of the fruit and cheese on the tray as well. Next time (if we were to tackle fruit arrangements again) I’d get strawberries and larger fruits (more kiwi, for instance) to fill in some of the spaces more quickly and easily.

Here was my “fruit arrangements” inspiration at Ginger & Garlic, found via Pinterest, of course! :) I didn’t realize how much fruit it takes to cover that amount of real estate (much less to look as densely covered as hers). So if you think you may have enough fruit, buy more!

31 Days of Pinterest: Scrabble tile art

by Alissa on October 17, 2011

31 Days of Pinterest

I’m blogging 31 Days of Pinterest Inspiration, with a special nod to potential holiday gift-giving.

If there’s one thing my husband and his family are crazy for… it’s Scrabble. No wonder I fit right in!

My husband would love this Scrabble tile art, as would his mom or grandma. So we could easily make this project one from the kids — and if my son helps search for the right tiles, he could practice his letters at the same time!

31 Days of Pinterest: Tie Christmas wreath

Does this tie Christmas wreath look any more masculine to you? I don’t know… maybe not. But I do like the unexpected feeling it provokes. And my husband just went through his ties and found several that were no longer nice enough to wear to work, but we (ok, I) still love the pattern.

And there’s that love of upcycling and reusing again. Surprise! :)
