Editor’s Note: This review was first published in 2011. We’re looking forward to this year’s annual visit!

We were recently invited to Sesame Place to check out their new A Very Furry Christmas event.

Last summer was the first time we took the kids to Sesame Place (they loved it!) and visited again near Halloween, so we were able to see all the characters in costume, which made for an extra fun experience.

We couldn’t wait to see how our Sesame friends celebrated Christmas!

I have to admit… I was pleasantly surprised. I assumed because it was close to December (we attended on Opening Night, which fell on Black Friday), that the rides would be closed. Nope! They have plans to keep the dry rides open throughout the entire event, weather permitting.

There were four Christmas-themed shows, so even those who have visited Sesame Place during the regular season will get to see four brand new shows!

We especially loved A Sesame Street Christmas Show, which featured Abby Cadabby learning about the celebrations and traditions of the Christmas season. Several of the Sesame friends came out on stage and sang Christmas carols, while they helped to teach Abby about celebrating the spirit of Christmas.

The Neighborhood Street Party Parade was also Christmas-themed and featured all the Sesame characters decked out in their best holiday gear.

The kids were pretty mesmerized throughout the entire parade.

As we snuck in as many rides as we could before the kids (and Mom!) were ready to zonk out, we really enjoyed the general Christmas-y feeling to the night. When the sun went down, the park lit up with all the Christmas lights. There was even a Christmas tree lighting at the park entrance – complete with a giant tree and choreographed Sesame-themed lights.

I can tell you that it was one of the neatest ways to kick off the Christmas season that we’ve experienced with the kids. And I’ll also tell you that – especially while the kids are still young – it’s definitely going to be an annual tradition for us.
