No Fits, Nilson! By Zachariah OHora

No Fits Nilson

If you remember, last year we had the good fortune to meet Zachariah OHora, author of Stop Snoring, Bernard! – an adorable kids’ book that has been in heavy rotation in our collection, while he was touring on his Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child tour. (Stop Snoring, Bernard! was the 2012 selection of the year for PA One Book.)

OHora is also a talented illustrator. His illustrations have appeared in The New York TimesAtlantic MagazineBloomberg BusinessWeek and Philadelphia Magazine, among others.

When he mentioned last year that he had another project in the works, we looked forward to discovering a new favorite, complete with the imaginative illustrations we’ve come to expect from OHora.

We were not disappointed.

No Fits, Nilson! addresses the elephant in the room when it comes to raising kids. Er, the gorilla in the room? In either case, it addresses the tantrums we’ve come to know well with toddlers (and sometimes, preschoolers) and helps kids learn the art of navigating their emotions through trial-and-error, compromise and a whole lot of banana ice cream.

We’re looking forward to lots of time spent reading and visiting with Amelia and Nilson. And less time experiencing gorilla-sized fits. (We hope!)

I am not entering because I have a copy, but I just want to say how great of a guy Zach OHora is and show support for your post. He spoke at out Lit Conference and everyone LOVED him…this book is fabulous – my 4 yo and 2 yo were engaged the whole time. I plan on reviewing it in a week or so… :)

Thanks for stopping by, Heather (and thanks for the comment)! He was great with all the kids, too, when we saw him on his Stop Snoring, Bernard! book tour last year. He had them all involved and excited – and they loved hearing about his inspiration for Bernard. It’s nice to hear your kids love Nilson and Amelia, too! Looking forward to reading your review of it!

    Work in a preschool . . . so many fits ~ so unnecessary. Looks like a book I could be recommending. Here’s to a gorilla-free year. ;)

Well, I learned that Zach and I have the same publisher…and that he draws Russian prison tattoos on his kids! Thanks for the fun interview, Alissa. I’d love to win the book as the contest ends on my birthday!
