Book reviews – Ghost Buddy series
Ghost Buddy: Mind If I Read Your Mind? - Henry Winkler
Short and sweet: The Ghost Buddy series, by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver, is geared toward kids ages 7 to 12.
Impressions: I’ll admit – I’m a fan of the Fonz. Growing up in Milwaukee, where Happy Days was set and where they have an official statue – the “bronze Fonz” — it’s tough not to be.
And while Henry Winkler has gone on to do so many creative things after his days at Happy Days, he will always hold a place in my heart as the Fonz.
So I was thrilled to hear that he had partnered with Lin Oliver to create the Ghost Buddy series, a middle-grade chapter series featuring Billy Broccoli and Hoover Porterhouse, III, or “the Hoove”, (who just happens to be a ghost). It’s a series about friendship and about being comfortable with yourself.
Bottom line: This is a fun series for your younger readers and a great choice for family read-together sessions. While it’s still just slightly above my son’s age range, it won’t be long until we can follow Billy Broccoli’s adventures together. What I’ve read so far on my own makes me think it’s appropriate that we give this series a “two-thumbs up” – and better yet, I think we need to add an “Ayyyy” in there, too.
