the review

We recently had the opportunity to review the Watch It! Elapsed Time Clock from Educational Insights.

As soon as it arrived, we knew it would be a fun one to test out.

We’re just starting to work on time concepts here. My son hasn’t learned how to tell time yet, but he does hear “5 more minutes” quite a bit, as we hand out gentle reminders that we’ll be moving to our next activity soon.

So the Watch It! Elapsed Time Clock is helpful in teaching him what that “5 more minutes” actually means.

The set is bright and colorful. The clocks are shaped like giant watches. The hour and minute hands are a great size and easy to move, but still have that satisfying “click” as they move around the clock dial to let you know that you’ve made it to the next interval.

The clocks are sturdy, durable and best of all… battery-free! This is totally kid-powered (but still easy for them to do).

There’s a corresponding digital clock down below each of the large clock faces. I can see us using this to teach the kids early time-telling concepts, comparing what a particular time looks like on a regular clock versus a digital clock.

In the middle of both clocks is a stop-watch.

Keep in mind, this is not a working clock. It does not actually keep the correct time throughout the day. But as a teaching tool, it works on several levels, from introductory time-telling concepts to more complex lessons of seeing how time progresses.
