Fashion Friday

Gymboree

Our winter has been the weirdest winter this year (weather-wise, at least).

One week it’s in the 50s. Then the 20s and back up to the 50s. To be honest, I can’t keep track anymore.

I can tell you, though, all these regular glimpses into spring? I’m SO ready for spring clothes shopping! I can’t wait to break out all those short sleeves and bold, bright colors. Fashion for kids this spring is looking fun!

Gymboree is one of my favorite places to shop for kids’ clothes. There are so many choices, which makes shopping there fun, but more importantly, their clothes are incredibly durable. With two active kids? That’s priceless.

Here are a few of my favorites that I’m thinking for spring:

Blue plaid boys shirt

This short-sleeve button-down shows off my favorite color combination. I love blue and green together, especially the different shades of blue here. My son is going to look sharp in this, whether he’s playing outside or dressing it up for Easter.

I’m going to grab this great airplane graphic tee for him to throw on under the plaid shirt, for a more casual look.

plaid shoes

And these awesome blue-green plaid sneakers are awesome! So cool. And no laces to worry about, either!

Though, once I stopped in the store, I couldn’t help but fall in love with these two outfits for him, too:

The mix-and-match concept that Gymboree offers makes it easy to shop for the kids. I like that he can wear either khakis, jeans, or cotton pants with these to switch up his looks depending on what he feels like wearing that day, too.

And there’s no shortage of sweet outfits for girls, either.

Here’s what’s on the list for my daughter:

purple girls tee

Purple, yellow and white. Three of her favorite colors. This sweet purple tee will be great under a little cardigan on colder days and paired with either a fun skirt and leggings or jeans.

daffodil purse

Oh my goodness. She is going to LOVE carrying this adorable purse, in the shape of a watering can. Adorable.

Of course, I always appreciate a good sale. So I’m happy to share that there are a few great deals going on at Gymboree right now, too!

Fashion Friday: From Summer to Fall

by Alissa on October 12, 2012

Transition from Summer to Fall

One of the easiest ways to stretch your wardrobe budget is to “shop your closet”. Take an item you wore one season (say, summer) and wear it all through fall.

I took one of my favorite summer dresses—this strapless, cotton dress from J.Crew (thrifted, of course!)—and transitioned it to fall using items I already had in my closet.

Fall fashion

Tips for transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall

1. Change up your accessories – I feel it’s much easier to pull off heavier, statement jewelry as you start adding layers in the fall. Here I chose a mixed chain necklace with a pretty industrial feel. Other easy accessories to add or change in the fall: scarves, a baggy knit hat, leather handbags and boots (see below).

2. Invest in a good pair of boots (or two). – Yep, I feel this is a stand-alone tip. That’s how much I wear mine once the temperatures drop. Under skirts and dresses, over skinny jeans and leggings. If it’s fall or winter and I’m outside the house, it’s a pretty safe bet I’m in boots. These Clark’s boots - as comfortable as they are stylish – are  hands-down my favorites, and have already gone the distance for two full years. Bought on sale (and still a splurge), but well worth the money.

3. Layer, layer, layer. – I grew up in Wisconsin, so I know layering. Cardigans are an absolute must. I like to find simple, basic cardigans in a range of colors as well as a few with additional details and texture (like the grey, ruffled cardigan below). A classic blazer can easily bump a t-shirt and jeans to the next level, while also keeping you warm. Wear a thin, tissue-weight layering tee under a short-sleeve summery dress for another layered look. Tights and boots (surprise!) worn under skirts and dresses are another classic combination.

Fall Fashion for Kids #CookiesKids #CBias

Fall Fashion for Kids

Fall is hands-down, my favorite season. The leaves on the trees change colors. We get to stock up on new school supplies and get introduced to new classrooms. And another big part of falling in love with fall… is the fall fashion, I admit. I love it when the crisp air hits and we get to break out the lightweight sweaters, the hats and jeans. I miss those sweaters when they’re tucked away all summer.

It’s not only me who loves getting cozy in their fall clothing, either. My kids have definitely adopted a preference for being comfortable. I like to make sure they’re also stylish, too. After all, you can be both!

So when late September hits and we start to feel temperatures drop ever so slightly, I start keeping my eyes open for great deals on fall clothing for the kids.

Fall fashion for kids

I like to shop smart, especially when it comes to the kids’ clothes. I have a boy and a girl, so there’s no real overlap in what they wear, which means our clothing budget is double. No stretching our budget by passing clothes down from one kid to the next.

Now that the kids are both out of the baby stage and their growth spurts are slowing down, I like to find brands that are durable, classic and stylish.

CookiesKids.com offers a department store right online, including a mix of brands and styles. It has something for everyone. And look what I was greeted with when I arrived at their website. I love it! Look at all those gorgeous fall colors in the background.

If you’re in the NYC area, they have 7 stores in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Jamaica. Or you can always shop online, of course! (See the end of the post for a special savings code!)

Here’s one example of how easy it was to shop online. Not only could I easily figure out what sizes my kids were wearing, but I could store that information in my profile, too. So next time I visit, I’ll have all those sizes handy and ready to go. Such a time-saver!

find right fit

The site is very easy to navigate. You can browse by gender, size and clothing type. If you’re shopping for school uniforms, you can even pull up your child’s school to get customized recommendations!

After a bit of browsing for both kids, I settled on a few items – for both my son and daughter.

This handsome hoodie and jeans set was only $11.99 for both pieces. What an incredible deal. The set looks nice together, but can also be used as separates, as well. I love that it’s so versatile, because that stretches our money even further. And since we regularly use hoodies as fall and spring jackets, we’ll easily get our money’s worth from this one.

I knew my daughter would flip for this casual track suit, in pink and purple – her two favorite colors.

It’s safe to say he’s feeling pretty excited about his comfy new pants! Fall fashion makes me this happy, too!

sweatpants

Here are just a few more items on my wish list for my son for fall from CookiesKids.com. Versatile basics with a unique, but classic style. And that vest is perfect for fall hiking!

I’m excited to share that you can save 10% at CookiesKids.com, too! Just use code funfindsforfamilies at checkout and you’ll receive 10% off your final order. That code is good through Nov. 30, 2012, so you’ll be able to take advantage of all the fall sales.
