Book Break: The Baby Cheapskate Guide to Bargains

by Alissa on May 2, 2012

Short and sweet: In her book, The Baby Cheapskate Guide to Bargains: How to Save on Blankets, Bottles and Everything Baby, Angela Wynne teaches parents how to save hundreds and even thousands of dollars.

Impressions: One of the most intimidating parts of becoming pregnant for the first time, can be the thought of all the “stuff” that goes along with that little bundle of joy. And how you’re going to afford it all. At least it was for us.

Angela Wynne, creator of BabyCheapskate.com, walks readers through from creating a registry to outfitting the nursery to feeding and clothing your baby on a budget.

She offers “Take-Away Tips” at the end of each chapter, so that even if you’re tight on time, you can absolutely skim these sections and still save a ton.

One thing I appreciate is that Wynne touches on the idea of asking yourself whether an item is a necessity or a want. Sometimes the emotions of creating the perfect nursery takes the place of remembering that babies don’t need much to be happy.

She also includes reader tips and even DIY ideas as additional ways to save money. The appendices are also helpful, including an extensive list of helpful websites for smart shoppers and smart suggestions to put on your registry.

Bottom line: This would make a great baby shower gift or a gift to yourself when you find out you’re expecting.

To facilitate this review, I received an advance reader’s copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
