AR Flashcards – Animal Alphabet are flashcards (with a twist) for a toddlers and preschoolers.

“When you point your device at the printed flashcards, a beautifully rendered 3D animal will pop up on the screen. Tap the animal to hear the letter and animal name.” – AR Flashcards

Pairing up animals and the alphabet? I knew my son would definitely want to check this one out for our best apps list!

First we printed out the flashcards. Even on their own were pretty fun and colorful!

Then we cut them all out (this step is optional… the app will still work with them all together on the page, too).

Now comes the neat part. You open the app and hold your phone (or iPad or iPod touch) over the individual flash card. When you hold it over the right spot… a 3D animal appears on your phone (or other device). Once the animal pops up, just tap the animal and you’ll hear the letter and animal name.

Both kids had a great time with this app! I did most of the maneuvering, while they had the chance to tap each animal as it appeared.

The ease of use will depend on the room’s lighting. We had a little trouble getting the animals to appear at first until we realized we had too many shadows. Once we moved to a more brightly lit room, we had no problems!

I absolutely love this unique twist on flashcards. I really think the novelty of AR, in this case, will help capture kids’ attention and get them primed to learn. And asking for more. I’m hoping there will be more AR Flashcards in the future which feature even more educational topics! In the meantime, we’ll be adding this one to our growing list of best apps for preschoolers.

Here’s what we liked most:

Portability.
 Educational.
 Colorful illustrations.
A novel and unique way to teach letters
